Get those guys out for a little shooting fun. Have a competition shooting at target at 100 meters standing up. They can use their uber highpower rifles and you can use your wimpy little 22lr rifle. They'll have an advantage since 100 meters is a really long shot with a kid gun like a 22lr rifle. Shoot at a 6" circle, 20 shots in 10 minutes, 5 points for each shot in the circle. Loser buys lunch/dinner/beverage/etc. Simple game, simple scoring.
That's a great idea, I already have 8" swingers made from 1" plate that would work well.

kevinbear wrote:22 rifles and I might add 22 shooters are not taken seriously in the U.S., more than once I've mentioned to another shooter from outside the silhouette or BR50 community that I'm going to a 22 tournament and I get the nose in the air attitude. One of the clubs I belong to is dominated by ex-military guys who believe 22's are exclusively kids guns, they spend crazy amounts of money on tactical guns that they shoot off the bench a couple of times a summer. If I'm going to shoot a particular gun alot I have no problem laying down big money for one.

Exactly....

Steel chickens does not like photo bucket for some reason, try this, it's the last two guns on the page.

US used to make fine Rimfires.

Winchester Low Wall, 1888, It's a recent re-build, off the factory special sporting pattern.

No half a dozen guys worked on it one time or the other. Main gunsmith work John Taylor Puyallup OR, stock finish Millard Hickson same city. Started as a shoebox full of parts all from different actions.
Here's another nice American .22 - 32/40 switch barrel. CPA Rifles Dingmans Ferry Pennsylvania

You can get nice American Rifles just not cheap. Either one is about Anschutz price. Labor required to turn out a nice rifle is the same Germany or US. Custom no country has better components, gunsmith, or finished rifles than we do.

They did a nice job, they look fantastic. I've always wanted a 63 and 71 from Turnbull completely decked out.

Re: No American .22's
I am sure Turnbull is good one of the best, lot of others out there doing nice work though. 63's are not too expensive origional 71's a lot more. One thing I had to watch on that Low Wall was not to finish higher than factory would have in the 19th century. Like restoring cars lot of people set them up better than they were. Pre WW I Most of the US makers had custom shops that would finish to order, but not polish up and engrave the insides like on a fine shotgun.
