I've got a case of "Anschutz Fever".

Post by Jetmugg »

I've got a mild case of Anschutz Fever, that I'm afraid is getting more intense. I also have some thoughts running through my head that I thought I should share, and listen to the responses.

Of course, I don't need a new rifle, but that doesn't stop me from wanting one. I'd like to own "the best" and rest assured in the knowledge that any future problems are with the shooter, and not the equipment.

Here are the thoughts/possibilities currently in my head....

Option 1 - find someone who is looking to sell a complete 1712 or 54.18 based custom rifle (hunter class legal) at a reasonable price - this doesn't seem like the most likely option.

Option 2 - Buy a 1712 FWT brand new, start shooting it, and then decide if I want to change the stock.

Option 3 - Call one of the top-notch gunsmiths on this board, and have a full custom rifle made (17XX series action, tapered barrell, two stage trigger, Pharr Stock)

Option 4 - Start collecting "parts" for a rifle - i.e. one of the 1702 mach2 rifles, looking for a replacement barrell, replacement stock, and then have one of the gunsmiths assemble the parts into a functioning rifle.

I'm fishing for opinions now - I've already spend a good amount on a CZ 452 Varmint, replacement stock, Timney trigger. I'll keep this rifle, but next time, I want to buy a "turn key" top notch rifle that needs nothing.

Looking for the best

I think that in the back of your mine, you really know what you want, and untill you get it, you will never be satisfied with anything else.
You know exactly what option you want, you don't need anybody else to tell you.
Adios.

Resistance is futile.

I know, I know. I already have a color/design in mind for the stock. I'm thinking of one of the water film dip coatings that looks like an extra fancy piece of walnut.

Me Too

I'm in the same boat as you, Jetmugg and have been doing lot's of dreaming. Are you going to be at the BRRC match tomorrow? I've got a new T-24 mounted on top of that old Winchester 75 and am curious to see what it will do. Now that I have the right scope, my thoughts too have swithched to "now, about that 17xx based custom that I've read so much about...?"

Won't be able to make it.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to the BRRC shoot tomorrow. I'm working a wacky 3rd shift, weekends only schedule right now. I'll go into work at 6:30 this evening, and get off at 7:00 tomorrow morning. I could probably physically be at the match, but I'd be worthless the rest of the day/weekend, and I'd have to be back at work again on Sunday evening at 6:30. I think I'd better just come home and get some sleep.

I want to get out to some of the Owensville matches that start in April, and hopefully 1 or 2 of the Green Valley matches in Columbia.

Good Luck tomorrow,

SteveM.
