Shot execution

I would like to know how everyone approaches their shot execution, hold ,breathing control,and approach direction.I have never had any actual training just learned as i went.

Lot could be said but something that would help is David Tubbs book. Have both think the first one is the better of the two for offhand technique. Lot about the other positions but Tubb's Offhand credentials can't be beat, lot of detail on match prep too. Think the easiest way to buy it is direct form Zediker publishing.

It's a big topic Tubb devotes entire chapter to it and is not going to come easy. However to give an answer it depends. Smallbore silhouette which I don't shoot much anymore settle off the Pig and Ram target to the right at 3 o/c swing in and break, unless wind is pushing me the other way then work left to right. Pigs and Rams are wider than high so holding elevation is the key and the swing in works fine plenty of width to work with. Turkeys that's not a good strategy, for me anyway, try to settle center on the animal anyway I can . Chickens I shoot as soon as I get acceptable sight picture it's faster and less swing. Thing about Silhouette is time is limited and you can't screw around have to break the shot. Any of the critters pace is very important and most use a different pace animal to animal. Fastest on Chickens slowest on Turkeys.

Schuetzen on bullseye targets with every shot counting I take a lot of time, if the gun won't settle I won't shoot. 100 shot match you have all the time in the world no squadded relays just have to be finished and turn the record targets in by the end of the 3 day match. Often take a nap after lunch to let things settle down before going back to record targets. Hang a sighter target beside record target and shoot it if not sure I can break center. 100 shot for score match I generaly shoot 150 plus rounds 50 on the sighter target. Rifle is much heavier has a hook plate and palm rest and will settle for a center shot if I am patient enough.

Not recomending my methods to anybody it works for me, not a simple one answer question

Not a master, but I have just about hit AAA in under a year. As far as hold goes do what ever you are comfortable with, I personally make sure my front elbow is right up on my rib cage and that my back arm is kept down and does not flare up. Next as far as breathing, I like to keep nice even breaths with one deep breath a little before go, just helps to calm me and center my focus. I try to take my shot within that 5-8second window like many suggest, but very rarely do, but I am trying to. ;) Bigger guy was bigger lungs maybe? As far as direction, if I'm thinking of it in the same context as you, I just try to approach everything one shot at a time, wonlt say I'm perfect cause I am dying to get my first 10pin but I am getting better at the one shot mini match mentality.

Heres what works for me.. (1st) preform pre shot routean.. set up good body position. shoulder rifle with good breathing, inhale / exhale etc with 1/2 breath hold. take up 1st stage and settle into target with focus on center.. break trigger when see sight picture.. That easy..

Practice / practice / practice.. if working hard in practice with preshot routean / body position / breathing / etc, and donot develope any bad habits, match conditions become less stressful and scores will increase.

That pre shot routine is critical. Watch a pro golfer or a baseball pitcher. Always the same pre shot routine every time. Anything throws them off they stop go back to the start of their routine and start all over. It's all about controlling the variables. If you tug your left ear before mounting the gun tug it every time same way same pull same time before mounting the gun. Might sound trivial but it's very important
