I could not agree more with the staement that "tactical" shooting has taken off and left most others in the dust. Shows like "Top Shooter" has been drawing in more folks and every shop has a more AR's than any other rifle combined. Too bad they are in carbine configuration and don't shoot for a dam past 50 yards but thats what the kiddies want cuz they saw it on TV! Maybe we could get someone with the big networks to show up like Shooter USA TV or something and do a story on all the different disaplines, we might get some interest in our game. :D :-bd

The program "Top Shot" didn't help matters. However, Popular Mechanics has now named the M4 as "the rifle that killed Osama"....so every schmuck will have to have one and play at Seal in training

This is a contributing factor to a drop in attendance:

Maybe we should put blinds and bipods and sandbags at the line =)) Oh wait, thats it, instead of shooting chickens pigs turkeys and rams we need to shoot antelope deer coyote and bear. Better yet we could have one of the target setters run toward us holding a pig, we'd have to put some tusks on it though to make it FUN and INTERESTING =)) Lets face it guys Silhouette shooting is just to difficult for most people. Dont get me wrong that match looks kinda fun though, all we need is more target setters that look like the gal holding an antelope on a stick :ymdevil: or is it that the .260, 7-08, 308, and 6.5X47 arent "MANLEY" enough to shoot.

Bob, I haven't been able to make a HP match this year as I have taken up skeet and trap in addition to the HP Silhouette, occasional Small bore Silhouette and IDPA matches that I shoot. Additionally, I have discovered that I actually have some natural talent for Trap and won the Class D High Overall Championship at the Missouri State shoot last month. With Gateway Gun Club only 10 minutes from home, it's just too much to resist. And it can't just be the economy, you should see what these shotgun guys spend on their trap rigs...$10,000.00 plus on Perrazi's and Krieghoff's.

I will agree though, that none of it compares to HP Silhouette. Even though I suck at it (personal best of 18), it's still think it's the coolest shooting game on the planet surface. And you are right about all these sensitive, so called hunters/marksmen...who are afraid to come out and shoot in front (and miss in front of) their peers. I've tried to get all my buds to come out and none of them have the cajones.

This weekend I will jumping out of perfectly good aircraft and shooting in a skeet tournament at the Springfield Rod and Gun Club. I should be able to attend both the July match and the August regional match, so save me a score book and I'll try not to forget the bolt to my 7BR like I did last year. :D

OK how about this:
we turn silhouette into a reality TV show!
The real house wives of Silhouette shooters. We get our wives to talk bout how were never around on the weekends to mow the lawn or paint the house....Then they shop for shoes. no OK; :ymsick:
Orange County Gunsmiths. We get a family of gunsmiths to have fake arguments about work.."what that bedding job is not ready yet. It should set up for 24 hours and the guys going to be here in 23!!!..." Toss a wrench across the room....No! OK; 8-}
Servivor "The loading bench" series. we put a bunch of dingalings on a loading bench and make them reload till there fingers bleed. Then they have to spend the whole day at the range shooting off hand till on of them drops. " you've been voted off the range". :ymdevil:

AD9...what is wrong with not mowing or painting if there are matches to attend? My yard reflects that attitude...the grass will get eaten by the geese eventually, and paint the house???
Now the loading until your fingers bleed, now we should be working on getting the spouses to do that so we have time to shoot more.

For pete's sake its making steel sing with a high power rifle..... as good as really really big fireworks ! Plus the added attraction of having other half eccentrics standing next to you :-? WELL

last night i went to my monthly meeting and a codgy old grump suggested that we stop having SB silo next year cause of low member attendence, he was offended he couldnt shoot 7 days ayear cause of silo. he also said silo shooters were rude and terrible people to go help by setting targets etc. i have never seen this member at a match, and am the RO!

he said the casual shooting was competitive enough, and he could have just as much fun as the "silo guys" shooting at the falling plates with his 22 rifle, 20 yds and 10". seems he was full of venom.

lucky i was there, i generally am busy with work stuff and dont go. i explained to the membership that it was the only competitive ( registered) outlet for us and it was also a way to be part of the shooting community with other clubs.

weird, he had no issue with the shot gun crew shooting every saturday year round, or the 4 h having 2 thursday evenings through out the summer. i was gobsmacked!.

then it turned to $$$$, he said shot gun brings more, i said they should they shoot 4-5 times a month, we shoot one match. i was enraged,he then said the last time he "helped" out some one told him to hurry us so he kicked over the targets and told the shooter to set their own, a donkey kicks things when stubborn so this guy is an ass.

i do not know what the deal is. i will endevor to keep it going.

sorry i know this is in the HP area. but low attendence may kill my program if dour old fools have their way, we must do what ever we can to keep this alive. i do not want to collect stamps or needlepoint i want to knock over steel.
it made me very nervous, the vocal minority gets things done, just like anti gun issues if we dont promote and support those who have a different view will take it away

Dave...dollar for dollar silhouette brings in more than shotgun...they destroy their targets thus very expensive to shoot. We have had that arugment many times in FL with shared ranges between shotgun and rifle, and every time when you compare costs vs income silhouette wins out.

Love your last two posts Dave.... =)) Same typical BS at most clubs. We had people who mowed the grounds want the berms bulldozed on our silhouette range as they made it harder to mow and 'you don't need them any way', then the last challenge was for each group to show what revenue they were bringing the club, obviously like you our numbers are low so revenue is low also. I said, seeing it's revenue and none of you are offering your time what do you care if it supports some of the expenses and supports some of the members and the shooting sports in general? Just typical club politics and BS. Some people go to the meetings just to complain. Heck our annual membership is only $40 and they complained when we raised it from $30 and we have/offer Skeet, Trap, SAS Cowboy, outdoor and indoor Pistol, a SB and HP range, IDPA, plus..... and they still are not happy.

The shotgun and cowboy guys are the worst, as they just look at the revenue and brag about it, but add in the bird expense, steel targets and it's very little for the club and in some cases a negative. I tried to get them to show revenue and expense for each discpline and you know how far that got.

I bought and paid for the animals at my club myself and they always ask " How much" did silhouette bring in. Even if its $2 its more than the trap guys make. It was calculated out that they get .13 cents per shooter if you figure in birds and the electric bill to keep it going. :-o
