AR 15 for hunter class?

Hi Folks

As long as the barrel was tapered, and it made weight, is there any reason that an AR 15 could not be legal for hunter class? I'm thinking 6.5 Grendel for the caliber.

I already have a lower with a match trigger, and a spare scope, so all I would need is the upper. I'm here in the People's Republic of California, but my lower is registered as an "assault Weapon" (what a joke that was), so no problem using a detachable mag.

The reason is that I shoot hunter class only once a year for the state match, and I'd like to have a rifle that would be useful for something else the remaining 364 days of the year.

What do you think?

Unfortunately, the top line of the stock extends above the mid-line of the bore, so an AR is illegal for silhouette.

DUH! Thanks, I should have known that. And with the buffertube configuration, there is nothing that you can do about it.

Well, lets look on the bright side, you saved me about $1500 for the upper, brass, dies, etc.

What other shooting are you involved in that you did not want to have a hunter rifle?

There are some people who have been pleased with Tikas. I am told the price is reasonable Nd that they shoot well. I tried the trigger on someone or other's rifle and it was more than acceptable. They feed better than a lot of Remingtons. Sakos feed wonderfully also, but tend to cost somewhat more.

You might check around and see if someone has a used one for sale. As you only shoot the hunter once a year, the barrel should last you quite a while even if it has a good many rounds through it.
