Scope Settings

Post by Daddio! »

Hi folks! I'm curious how your scope elevation settings for the 40, 60, 77, & 100 meter distances compare to what I've been using. Please specify what ammo you're shooting (or approx. FPS), what value each click on your scope is (1/4 min, 1/8 min etc) and whether your range is in yards or meters.

For example, this is what I used last year:

Rem .22 Target (1150 fps), 1/4 min. clicks, Meters

Chickens = 0
Pigs = +8
Turkeys = +10
Rams = +10

This year I'll be shooting Wolf MT (1050 fps) but I haven't been able to check my scope settings with the slower ammo yet. Providing it isn't pouring rain (again) tomorrow, I'll have the opportunity to re-zero my scope before the match that I'll be attending and I'll be curious to see how they compare with my settings for the faster ammo.

In minutes for just about any SB target ammo.

chick - 0
pig - 2
turk - 4
ram - 8

They do vary a little from day to day but not much.

HP shooting 142s at all distances is.

chick - 0
pig - 2
turk - 5
ram - 10

0 2 4 8 for me too, meters. if you are aiming at center of mass, they should be a good start for yards too. not much drop in a couple yard for rams and turkeys

Just a little FYI. Remington "Target" ammo is junk. I got some a few years ago and you could hear the shot to shot variation so much that I broke out the Chronograph and sure enough it would shot one round at 1200 fps and the next at 825 fps and the next at 1000 etc. Remington should be shot for selling that crap as target ammo. No one I have ever talked to thought this was even half decent ammo.

You will be much happier with the Wolf.

As for me using SK+ which is Wolf essentially I go 2' up on pigs 4' up on Turks and 8' on Rams all depending on conditions and the range being shot at it could vary a few clicks.

Depends on environmental conditions and elevation of range...but base starting points for Eley Target, Match, Club or Tenex in meters, with 1/4 minute clicks on Leupold 6.4X20 or Premier 18X 40 are:
C=0
P=+2
T=+4.5 to 6
R=+7.5 to 9.5

With Wolf Match
C=0
P=+2,
T=+6 to 8
R=+10 to 11.5

Thanks for your replies everyone!

Dee, I realize Remington Target is junk. I started shooting SB Silhouette last summer and I caught a sale on the Remington so I bought a bunch of it to get me through my first year. I've been shooting rimfire for the past 20 years (mostly BR) and I knew that the Remington wouldn't shoot like Tenex or even Wolf but I decided to go with it anyway.

With Wolf MT my settings ended up pretty close to the numbers that Jerry G suggested. In the future I'll use these as a general guideline for this rifle. I'll verify and adjust before each match if necessary.

C = 0
P = 2
T = 4
R = 9
