Co State HP results.

Post by Bob Mc Alice »

We had eleven shooters on Saturday and twelve on Sunday attending our match. Warm but sometimes windy conditions prevailed thru out the two days. Several five in a rows were recorded and a very nice ten in a row rams was fired by Jim T. with his .260 Std. rifle. Nice shooting Jim. A few rams were rung over the course of the weekend but I dont have all the details, etc. NONE by the Guru! The 168's did their job well.

At the end of each day we all threw two bucks into the pot to take a single shot at a golf ball on a string from a benchrest at 300 meters. It's a sudden death winner takes all contest. Bob S. made a hit on Sat. and Bob M. got it on Sun. borrowing Dave B's rifle. :)

The Winners:

Standard Rifle...............................................................Hunter Rifle

Lee O. MW 62/80........................................................Lee O. MW 50/80
Dave B. 1St AAA 54/80..................................................Dave B 1st M 49/80
Ed P. 1st AA 30/80.......................................................Steve H 1st AAA 48/80
Trent M. 1st A 33/80....................................................Kevin K 1st AA 28/80
.............................................................................Trent M. 1st A 31/80

This wraps up our 2010 season. With the onset of hunting season, and with snow and cold just around the corner our winter attendance is usually pretty slim. So in 2011 we start a 6 months on and six months off format. We will still get in practice matches this winter as the weather allows. We will hit 'em hard again next April.

The question in my mind is, isn't one of those manly 7's that the Goatru put together accurate enough to hit a golf ball at 300?

JB, all of the 7-08's I put together are accurate enough to make a marble nervous at 300 M. The trouble was I had no chicken ammo left, none. I shot all my extra Saturday afternoon. All I had left was ram loads. I couldn't risk that pile of dollar bills on not knowing where my 168's hit at 300 M.

That ball was swinging a bit in the breeze. I put the dot half a ball left and massaged the Jewell trigger till it went boom. That .264 bullet ripped a nice big groove on the right side of the ball. I stuffed the cash in my pocket and went back to my match director work. Six guys did not get a chance to fire a shot. Too bad, Mr. Bonner selected the order of shooters to the bench.

Memorable quote of the match. As Dave B. was showing his collection of various fired 6.5 silhouette brass to a couple of guys, Lee wanders over and states " there ain't a mouses nuts worth of difference between them"........ classic Oneil .

Well we have a situation here that Hellen Keller, Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder can see. As the master sleuth Charlie Chan would say " Goatru shoot 6.5, Goatru no whine like little girl with skinned knee, Goatru berry happy!

Yep, straight to the point and more than a little bit of truth in it.

Jim, that wasn't a golf ball. It was a goof ball. They are about a foot and one half in diameter.

Bob, thank you for directing the HP match! The hooks have certainly sunken in fully and there is no escape for me know. Most of my spare time is now spent researching and learning about reloading. My cases from the match are all reloaded and ready for the next session, and I while I was at it I filled up a box of 22-250 as well. Now I just need to find some p-dog towns. (completely unrelated but the 22-250 will consistently take Rams... if you can consistently hit them within 1" of the top of the back. :D )

I don't think I am any threat to you, Bonner or O'neil anytime soon, but damn I had a fun time!
