Re: Question
You're welcome Sarge. As a lowly PFC in our beloved F troop, I was hoping not to anger the higher ups. But of course as an apprentice BSer I could also be angling for another orange shirt! Although any Silhouette match is a good thing, what you and your crew has done for our sport is unprecedented and will never be forgotten. Thanks again, and hope to see you soon if I can locate my chapstick...

Re: Question
Why do most of the other previously mentioned outstanding Marksman in this post avoid the Southern Nationals?
Bobby R. Huddleston
I can think of only 3 logical reasons:
1) It is a Union plot!!!!! (as I look up at my framed picture of Lee surrendering to U.S. Grant)
2)They don't like beer?
3) They don't like things with legs and eyes in their food???
Oh wait!!! Maybe there is a forth reason: It is only 1 week after the Iron Horse Classic (look it up). Now, Bobby, if you come ride with me maybe I will fly back with you??

Re: Question
Sounds to me as if someone has thrown down a gauntlet. If I can ever justify the drive I shall pick it up!

Re: Question
The first two words describing the "Clubhouse" forum are "General BS". Another Dang 9 picked up the valid point(the gauntlet) in the General BS. The following respect gauntlet analogy might help. Thanks Alex for starting this thread. I hope the members of the Arroyo Rifle Club are able to come to Winnsboro again in 2010. Winnsboro would not be the event it is without them. I learned a lot of things from Arroyo Club Members about Silhouette that help me greatly.
Compare the Smallbore Silhouette Champion to other dominate Sports Figures:
What if Roger Federer never played the U.S. Open?
What if Babe Ruth never played in the World Series?
What if Tiger Woods never played the Masters at Augusta?
What if Michael Phelps swam in every worldwide meet but the Olympics?
What if Richard Petty raced in every NASCAR race but Daytona?
What if the Yankees refused to play in the World Series?
What if the Rolling Stones never played Madison Square Garden?
What if I did not race at Charlotte Motor Speedway when I won a World Karting National Championship in 1994(personal thing)?
I put on Matchs more than I compete now. Disouraging others from putting on high quality matchs is not my point. The more matchs the merrier. Shoot the Southern Nationals as early as you can in your Silhouette career. I did. I hope if you shoot the Southern Nationals it will put everything into perspective for you as it did me. It is different from other matchs if you observe what is going on around you.
Edited(In hindsight the Winnsboro Southern Nationals may not be the most difficult range to shoot because of all the distractions. There has never been a 10 in a row Turkey or Rams shot at the Monthly matchs my family conducts at Magnolia Rifle & Pistol Club in Jackson, MS.)
As always I hide behind no forum monicker.

Re: Question
Jim T. I am 4 or 5 years away from retirement. I think I will take you up on the Ironman offer the Summer I retire. The Southern Nationals actually start the Sunday before everyone thinks it does. There are matchs all week long except Monday and Tuesday. So the Ironman conflicts with the Winnsboro Match but the Southern Nationals cannot go on forever. It will be a sad day when David and Jerry are no longer physically able to put the Match on.
Replace that picture at Appomatox with a nice drawing of Nathan B. Forrest or a nice Bonnie Blue Single Star. You will be happier. My great-grandfather's Father and his two brothers surrendered to Grant at Vicksburg. They raised their right hand and took the oath that they would "fight no more and be loyal citizens of the Union".They were in Featherstone's Brigade and all three survived the War without a scratch. That Grant was a real nice fellow. As far as we can figure out the three brothers went home, raised one crop to feed the families and reformed in Featherstone's Brigade. Details are sketchy. Documents prove that they surrendered the final time near Greenville, S.C., a long walk back to Central Mississippi. That was my Mother's side. No one has time to read the lengthy exploits of my Father's side.

Re: Question
Never doubted your love for us....just worried about why we had not heard from you in a while. Gearing up for Winny I guess, saving all the good remarks for earshot of the judges.

Re: Question
Hey Dawg, you are the man...remember last year at Winny when we banged on Evelio's room after midnight and he he opened the door with a glass of scotch in one hand and his little friend in the other? Good stuff....

Re: Question
Good! The DAWG is loose again. I think the Dawg has just been busy doing a lot of good stuff coaching youth in another Rifle Discipline in his local area. He is not one to toot his own horn but James does a lot to help others. Like many folks in the Competitive Shooting Sports a rough exterior but a heart of gold on the inside.
