Question

Post by elpasoshooterlopez »

Does anyone know how many national championships Augustin Sanchex Jr. has won? each one counts like the year 2007 he won sb standard and hunter and hp standard and hunter so that would be 4, but how many overall has he won? someone at the shot show bragged saying he won 11 and nobody has ever done that and nobody will ever catch up to him and he is the best and blah blah blah. if im correct Augustin has around 16 at least. i know he has won the entire competition sb and hp 4 years at least...i think so. i dont know. anyone have an idea of how many?

thanks!

Ketchup....shades of Johnny Weismuller, Mark Spitz, Hank Aaron.... and so on. You should be able to find that on the NRA web site, I know they list the champions in the entry program that is sent out, although I am sure Jason is correct that lone ringer could also tell you.

For those that want to know Agustin Sanchez has won 20 National Championships since he started going to them and he is only 26 years old.
He won the sb standard rifle 7 years running and did not shoot sb in 2009. Only David Tubb one time won all four National Championships in the same year.

thank you tony!
that's what i went back and looked and he has the longest winning streak in history for nra championships in sb silhouette.
you know you have talent when you sweep out competition 7 years in a row
but thanks now i can make the guy look dumb when i tell him a 26 yr old has more championships than him and most likely to add more to it

Why did choose not to compete in SB for 2009?

David Tubb knows who Agustin Sanchez is. Somebody took a picture of both of them recently at one of the matches, David was not shooting. By the way I counted David's wins and they are also 20 mostly in HP and he has at least one that does not show in the books because we only had an open class one year.

Why did choose not to compete in SB for 2009?
In the past we used to take lots of time to go to the Nationals and make sure the rifles were sighted in properly and he would go through a lot of ammo getting ready. This year because of work he could not take the time off and we only shot the HP matches.

Work... the 4 letter word that gets all of us sooner or later ;)

Except for maybe Mary who plans 'work' field trips around shooting matches, Oh to be the boss =))

El Paso :

I suspect the following is the basis of your question:

"Pop Stars vs. Legendary Marksmen
At every SHOT Show, I’m struck by some odd ironies. This year I walked past one booth which was absolutely mobbed with people trying to meet an attractive young female celebrity — a contestant from American Idol. Fighting through the throng, I continued down the aisle to the McMillan booth. There was David Tubb, quietly chatting with a McMillan rep. Mind you, David is an 11-time National High Power Champion. He has also won National Silhouette titles and scores of other matches. He is arguably the greatest competitive rifle shooter in American history. Yet hundreds of people walked by without even noticing David. Think of the irony. Imagine if Michael Jordan was sitting in a booth at a sports convention. The place would be mobbed. Yet David has certainly dominated his sport the way Jordan dominated basketball. Jordan won six NBA Championships. Tubb has won ELEVEN National Championships (and he’s not done yet). Yet the vast majority of SHOT attendees don’t seem to care about legends like David Tubb, or about shooting excellence in general… they would rather wait in line to meet a “wannabee” from American Idol than learn something from a truely legendary marksman. Sometimes I DO wonder about our priorities."

This was on the 6mmBR website. Not sure where the "bragging" part comes in but I think Mr. Tubb would have the right to brag about 11 REAL National High Power Championships if he so desired. These are not the same as Silhouette High Power National Championships. The talent pool he competed against included USAMU veterans, NCAA Champions, and other High Master competitors. As referred to above, he dominated Silhouette shooting in the same manner as Mr. Sanchez. However, his domination of REAL High Power matches at Camp Perry (and other shooting disciplines) seem to back up the quote above that "he is arguably the greatest competitive rifle shooter in American history."

Question: Who is the greatest shooter in Mexican history?????

Truthfully, I am more intimidated by Tubb and the other stars in our sport (that I won't list by name for fear of missing one) than by any possible contestant on a game show. Buying ammunition from Cathy Winstead-Severin? Bothering Evelio or Mark Pharr with a question? Scary. Mini-Kitty is getting there. These people have earned their hero status through skill, years of hard work, and dedication to something I struggle in to shoot AA.

Fortunately, I make up for that nonsense by feeling perfectly free to pick on Mary. :ymhug:

Absolutely true, Mary. I still end up in something akin to hero worship because of their accomplishments. These are not one hit wonders that were just in the right place at the right time, these are are people that proved themselves repeatedly under pressure, and that is an amazing trait.
