Have the gun rules changes since the 1980s attracted more people to the game?

No evidence points to such a thing even though lots of people tout that as the reason they want things changed. Attendance at all nra shooting sports have

I would have loved it to stay at the 7.5 lb limit but I only started silhouette in 2013

started silhouette in the late 70 in west texas. we only had standard rifle class in smallbore and high power. today i still don't see a reason why we have a hunter class. the hunter rifle class keeps moving toward the standard rifle class. hard to tell them apart now.

The rules committee that oversees all NRA shooting disciplines met in January and will be updating rule books for 2025 (if any changes occur) in the coming weeks. Should know soon.

I am going to add my opinion here. I favor the 9lb. weight limit but not necessarily because of rifle contours but because of optics. Rifle scopes are getting heavier. 1 in. main tubes have grown to 30mm, 34mm and even 35mm. The manufacturers are making scopes for other shooting disciplines that allow heavier scopes.

Take a stock Anschutz 1712 and throw a 4-20 Leupold VX-5HD and weight is going to become an issue with the current 8.5 lb. limit.

It looks like the scope manufacturers are only going to keep building heavier scopes for the foreseeable future. Not a good thing for our sport.
