Cast Bullet Downrange Ballistics

Post by K Danz »

Is anyone aware of a resource for down range ballistics for cast bullets?
Looking for what to expect at 200M from various cartridges.

Most any of the good ballistics calculators online will give you a rough idea about what to expect.
But the only real way to know is to shoot at 200 meters, in all sort of wind conditions.

The Lyman cast bullet reloading manual gives BC’s for the listed bullets.

Playing with the calculator’s on jbmballistics.com can be very educational. Especially when looking at ways to reduce recoil and wind drift with cowboy guns. The answer/evidence often doesn’t align with conventional thinking. Heavy, long and slow cast bullets can have impressively low wind drift and recoil energy numbers and still deliver adequate Ram KO’s.

I made this chart for my own reference not public posting. It may have flaws, the notes at the end where just to jog my memory they may not draw a concise picture but at any rate for people that like data there’s some data.
