1827 Barrel Question

Post by Hoser »

I am building up an Anschutz 1827 and am wondering if the reverse taper barrel is legal for hunter and standard classes. The rulebook just says hunting style tapered barrel. A reverse taper *is* a taper in my mind, but I am a rook at this rifle stuff.

Shall I call Lilja now and order a new tube?

I put a Lilja on mine. Make sure the action is square. You can put the 1712 mag well on it, too. I have a # 53 barrel, fluted cut to 24". With the 30X Leupold, I could have added an inch or had less fluting. Also, I had Evelio make me a front mount instead of using only the rear mount. Sportsmatch rigs will bring the scope down to the barrel. Evelio, Bob, got anything to add?

Reverse taper will only be allowed in standard. For hunter you have to have a taper from chamber to muzzle. Pat will be the one to answer your questions about the 1827. Only problem with his someone put the bolt handle on the left side of the action!

I agree with Pat. The only thing on mine I didn't do was change the barrel and I shot it in Std class only. Hoser and I had exchanged some PM's when he started his project.

Currently I'm shooting one gun in both classes, which I had Evelio build for me as well.

If Evelio keeps getting all this good press, he'll never get to build my high power (yes, I am going ahead with it, never mind the medicos...)

That is exactly the part in the rulebook I could not find... All I could find is taper, nothing about chamber to muzzle.

Um, Hoser, I hope you don't have that thing turned backwards...

OK guys, enough of this backwards stuff. For the record, the bolt handle is located on the correct side of my gun. Period. The cheekpiece is on the right side, too! Hoser's barrel is in correctly as well, as there are no Aggies in the Fatherland.

I shoot my gun in both classes. Mostly because I've never had anything fit so well. It just plain works. And thankfully so, because Evelio spent so much time making it right, he'd evicerate me if I didn't shoot it. I'd still love to have Jack's lefty standard gun to go with it, though.

Good luck at Zwolle y'all.

Pat,
Your bolt might be on the correct side of the stock but it sure makes you do a lot of rutting when you are the 2nd or later relay. :D

Gee, Thanks Mary for bringing that up. :P For the record, I finally beat my teenage daughter in every single match we shot lat weekend. First time in over a year, or since about her second match. Of course it was homecoming weekend, she could have been distracted.....

Kevin did you get a 1712?

Hey In Rut Pat,
How many matches did you shoot? One or only half of one that was called due to rain. Using homecoming for a distraction is unfair, just remember prom is coming and I'll talk with her about letting an eveing affair interfere with whipping up on you.

Evelio
I think Evelio ment Prize instead of Price, mybe that is the Cuban translation. Evelio gave Larry 100 Russian Rubles as his prize and told him it was worth $30 US. Well here is what my online currency converter says
100.00 RUB = 4.02909 USD
That is one heck of a prize for the match winner. I think he may have gotten some NRA award points also.

See everyone in Zwolle tomorrow, Paul

Hey I'd rather have the Rubles than the NRA award points.
