One of my 357 Rossi's was like that.... bought new, +/- 3K rounds through it... clean barrel, lights out, about 40-60 shots down the barrel, opened up to the point you could barely hit pigs....CamP wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 6:27 am I tried polishing the bore with KG2, but the damage was beyond that so I fire lapped it with the Tubbs bullets. This improved things a bit, but still copper fouls almost immediately. Shoots lights out with a clean barrel, but starts throwing fliers at about 20 shots.

Its a 24" round barrel Legacy with a cross bolt safety. I really like it and I'm looking for another one now.

Okay, first test with subsonic load 32-20 loads.
3.5 grains of Trailboss (about 3/4 of the case) and a Hornaday 85gr jacketed bullet. sounded subsonic with no crack.
Felt lighter than shooting a 22 Mag, cases a little under pressure with a little light soot about half way down the empty cases, sometimes.
takes down full size chickens at 50 meters no problem, took down 1 full size pig (100 meter) and left another standing, so it will have no problem with 100 meter PC Rams which probably weigh about a third of a full size pig.
More testing to come, going to try a little more powder and also try VV 32c (Tin Star) powder too.

Ojai, Good luck!
Since brass is hard to find for 25-20, I had a second idea of expanding the necks on 218 bee cases.
Maybe using a 7mm tapered expander then full length resizing cases.
I've only had ok luck when trying to size down 32-20 brass to 25-20 for a friend.

Recently got some 32-20 cases from the Angeles Loading Store.
First try a resizing to 25-20 only lost 4 cases out off 100.

25-20 brass,
Starline 32-20 brass and the Redding 25-20 trim die.... lube and size.... 99% will size no problem.
OR the only company with new is X Load in California... apparently they had Starline make a billion run and that is who Starline will send you to.
Expensive BUT he does size and anneal the cases he sells.

Thanks Emmett!
Ojai, I’m trying more loads this weekend at our Lever match on Sunday. Trying to get ready to go to Arizona. I’ll keep you posted on loads.
And our State lever match is in May, signups should be ready soon. We are raffling off a Henry 24” 22mag lever rifle this year. Free entry with each card you shoot. Make sure you come please!

Re: 32 H&R from 32-20 lever rifle?
I have read many people speak highly of Rossi M92 rifles. I am not one of those people. I have a carbine and rifle, both 357 magnum. The carbine is from Interarms and the rifle is from Navy Arms. I say that just to show that they were of different vintages and had a few years between them.Another Dang 9 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 4:59 pm CamP take it to the local gun shop and dump it...

And stay away from those Rossi's they are junk.
I could live with "ruff finish" on the exterior or action parts. However both rifles have the same unforgivable problem. The barrels are horrible. The chambers look like they were reamed with a loose spade bit. Deep radial cuts and ridges. Again, both Rossi had shallow rifling just (and I mean just) over two thousandths deep. The extremely ruff chambers were oversized, so only slightl polishing was possible.
The rifle was sent back for warranty repair and the barrel was replaced. It was a little different but no better.
I now am the happy owner of one Uberti and two Japchesters. (Miroku made Winchester)
Your mileage may vary, and will hopefully be better.

David, I have two Rossi's one a short 18" in 44 mag for my son and a 24" stainless steel heavy Oct. Barrel in 357mag.
I have fortunately have very good luck with both, with easy triggers to work on at around 2 lbs.
Both of mine are just from Rossi, not other importers.
I plan on selling the 24" Octagon Stainless at the AZ state match. Nothing wrong with it, just too many 357's now that I'm playing with the 32-20's.
