If it sells well, I expect Boyd's and others will have replacement stocks.

Could the magazine release be cut off and still be functional?

I think you could shorten it, but I don't think you'd want to remove it completely. (for the record, I do not beat the dog in the photo. He is just mad that I got guns out of the safe and didn't take him hunting. That is his "let down" face.)

Nope, sorry. Haven't shot it since the first time out with it. This rifle isn't going to get a ton of use. Mainly it is just going to be for my wife to use when ever I can get her out to shoot silhouette. I should have taken it today to our silhouette match and shoot it myself to get zeroes. Maybe I'll shoot it in next weekends match at Fort Valley GA and I'll report back how I do with it.

It would be interesting for someone, maybe a beginner, really wring one of these out for a season to see how it holds up. It should do well, but a couple thousand rounds does odd things to some rifles.

I wonder if the mag release is the same as on a 10/22? If so then perhaps one of the old flush mount releases may fit. If only the barrel was the same a a 10/22! I would have been all over one of these.

I haven't felt like the mag release is obtrusive at all. From outside appearances it does look to be the same as a 10/22 mag release though. Here is my photo from above side by side with a 10/22 release.

old thread, but interested in the Ruger.

any feed more feedback on the Ruger vs. the CZ off the bench or after a few more matches?

I guess there ok for the price....I just cant get past that stock and I have seen some not so good shooting ones online in a few different tests I would rate them as a plinker.

Two other guys from the club I shoot at bought them and are as impressed with theirs as I am with mine.

Plinker, Hunter silhouette... what's the difference? If they can hold a group they can knock down animals. The stock is perfect for silhouette and the rifle is a good price. It's a good value. It is what it is.

I think CZs are a little more "refined" although in capable hands I doubt any of the CZs, Rugers or Savages could truly "buy" you any extra animals. I think the risk of getting a non-shooter is probably less with CZ. I won't be selling my Ruger anytime soon and I took it to FL state match as my back up gun to my $3000 Anschutz.

I am likely to have purchased a bad one but mine never shoot. It now has a new home. With high velocity I got 6-8 inch groups at chickens. The best I was ever able to at chickens with several types of ammo was about 2 inches and then it would start throwing. I really wanted the rifle to work for me but it did not. Ruger says they figure 2-3 minutes to be in spec.

Wish I had got a good one :((

I have both the CZ 452 and the ruger american rim fire set up for silhouette. My kids participate in 4H shooting sports and one uses the CZ and the other the ruger. At first I was disappointed with the Ruger it was stringing shots vertically over about 3 inches at 50 yards with match grade ammo. I finally had some time to remount the scope, put it on the bench and try out different ammunition. I found it liked Lapua Center-X and now shoots consistent 1/2" groups at 50 yards with no stringing. Bulk ammo and HV stuff really opened up to 1 1/2" or so. I removed the trigger spring (it now resets with just the safety blade spring) and the trigger breaks cleanly at about 1 1/2 pounds and is safe (beat the crap out of it while working the bolt/safety etc.). The ergonomics are good, the 60 degree bolt throw and separate bolt release are nice. I don't have to worry about hitting the scope while cycling. I typically don't like synthetic stocks but the Ruger stock is pretty well made and has v-blocks embedded in the stock (nothing like the Savage piece of junk stock). The blocks are removable so you can put in a replacement stock if you want. The barrel is free floated already. Overall a really sold gun for the price. With all that said, I still pick up the CZ when I want to shoot, I just like the feel of it better (mostly the wood stock even though I can't get a cheek weld with it). I may eventually buy a replacement wooden stock for the Ruger and that might tip the scales back the other way. I will have to see.

I have a few CZ's and an Anschutz 1913. I was thinking of picking up the RAR for non serious "fun". I can't find minimum grouping statement from Ruger anywhere at all. Can anyone point me in the right direction since the going price for the rifle is $260+/-. Also, I read the vent hole for .22lr is not necessary per Ruger and they will not take a return on it if missing.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet but Boyds offers two stocks for it now.

I have the compact version and have shot a few groups at 50 yards with it and they averaged around 3/4 inch. It won't be a silhouette rifle for me, but I may start bringing it to matches to loan out to new shooters.
