Canadian Nationals logistics thread

With the first match of the Lapua Monarch Cup happening at the Canadian Nationals, a bunch of us are going to need some logistical support from those in the know. Namely... best airports to fly into, nearby hotels, food/grocery options, do we need to take dog-sled lessons before or can we do that once we get there, etc.

So let's hear it from those of you that have the inside scoop. Help out those of us that are planning on traveling up there to the great frozen north in search of fame and glory!

Flying to Calgary
4h15m drive to Cranbrook

Flying to Spokane, Washington
3h 30m drive to Cranbrook

I'm not sure of the process of flying to Canada with firearms but crossing the border at Eastport, Idaho if flying into Spokane, WA is super simple. I'm starting to know the RCMP by first name at that crossing. =))

Plenty of hotels in Cranbrook, but I'd say book early. In the past BRSA has opened up camping at the range so that might be a possibility. I'll ask Jordan Marsh to chime in on that one.

Cranbrook is a fairly large town with plenty of restaurants and grocery stores... They have a Canadian Tire, so that's pretty much all you'll need :))

You will not be disappointed being at this event! BRSA is a great organization with incredible people, beautiful range too!

I'm not a resident of Cranbrook, but have enjoyed my trips there.

You can also fly to YXC - Cranbrook

If you drive from Calgary, recommend you drive through Banff and Hwy 93 to Radium Hot Springs, at least one way - is a bit longer, but some very beautiful scenery - spending an extra day or 2 to travel the Icefields Parkway to Jasper would not be a waste of time either

Camping across the road from the range is fun - no facilities (power, water, sewer), just a natural clearing in fairly open forest

Do not be tempted to "forget" to declare anything on the Firearm Declaration form.

When you get to the US border stop and fill out a card to make it easier to come back to rhe states with your guns.

I live in Cranbrook, p.m. me or Rickf280 at gmail.com. Rick Fraser on Facebook, the ruggedly handsome one.

I’m happy to help any way I can. That is free, I do charge however for dogsled lessons.

Lots of hotels and restaurants as mentioned. Camping at the range is available. There is also a snack shack at the range; the plan is to have breakfast and lunch available each day. Additionally, the first day of smallbore and the first day of high power come with a steak barbeque for dinner.

Once you get here it’s easy.

And regarding weather, don’t be shocked if it’s 90+ degrees.

Two things...

Have the entry registration forms become available yet? Jordan Marsh said on Facebook that he's already filled 100 out of 180 slots but I haven't seen any forms posted anywhere yet.

Anyone know if it's easier/safer/less potential for disaster to cross the border with firearms while driving across versus flying into Calgary?

Pretty good driving across the border. Like Jerry stated, stop on US side and fill out form for your rifles you are taking across. They will ask for that when you come back. On there side they have a 3 page carbon copy form. When you print one off website it is only one page, so you need 2 copys of that page. If you don't make the copies they wi have to. They get a little pissy about that, and they also get pissy about having to sign the printed one's. They like the carbon ones. I might have some here, I will check. One thing about it is a great place to shoot. I like it better than my place. I am just a visitor there, i just sit back and enjoy

Canadian Nationals program and entry form...

2020 Canadain Nationlas.pdf

Since the entry form says "All fees are in Canadian funds", how are all you non-Canucks translating that into USD? Sure, I can look up the exact exchange rate, but on a practical side of things how are you guys paying? Check in US dollars rounded off to the nearest dollar, something else?

Go to your bank or to AAA and purchase Canadian currency ahead of your departure, you will need some for incidentals anyway. Arrange with the match officials to pay the entry fees in Canadian when you get there. They are very accommodating to us "Yanks". Linda Marsh loves cash.
I believe that some of the March family will be at Conard Cup so you may be able to send registration and fees with them.

Safe to say about a dozen of us from Cranbrook will be at the Conard, we can hook you up.

If you are in the States and have specific questions, PM me your phone number and I can call you.

Hey guys. Here is a list of discounted hotel rates for Cranbrook. There is also camping at the silhouette range. First come First serve, but there is a lot of room. No electricity or running water. Cranbrook is only a 5 to 6 minute drive away from the range with a big supermarket and Sani dump for trailers. If are curious what everything looks like please check out the Bull River Shooters facebook page and go to the video section.
