BPTR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP !!CANCELLED!!

Post by lijeboy »

The BPTR National Championship in Raton has been cancelled for 2019 due to low registration numbers. Those who have entered will be fully refunded.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at BPCR and Lever Action.

How low were their numbers? Wasn't this run at the same time as the regular BPCR matches?

Fifteen. Yes, it was immediately prior to BPCR Iron, hoping to get some crossover.

Black powder target rifle. Creedmoor is what was on for this year, 800, 900, and 1000 yds.

Historically there were less than a dozen cross over from silhouette to creedmoor. What may have generated more cross over in the severely shortened format of this "bptr nationals" would of been a midrange prone match. More silhouette shooters rifles are better geared to shoot the midrange matches than the long range.

I totally agree, and had I been in charge, or hell, even consulted about it, we would have had midrange.
Makes much more sense to me.

That is completely untrue. Completely. This has been documented numerous times.

Just baffles me who and why the decision was made. Wish they would of at least asked active competitors thoughts on the match.
If there's any chance at all of the thing happening again, best bet would be to get later into August or early Sept.,so the weather is a bit cooler, and less chance of monsoons washing the targets off the backing. Schedule the thing so it would be possible for BPTR shooters could shoot in the Silhouette and Silhouette could come over and try a bptr match.
Interesting little tidbit that even back in the day when there were massive numbers of silhouette shooters, that did cross over during their days off, there were only around 30 shooters that were in "ironman" , they are the ones that shot all 6 days of the bptr, and could be considered die hard competitors.

Brent I believe there were only 6 maybe 8,when the matches were last combined in 2016, and a search of old match bulletins document it fairly well.
