4895

Post by chuck d »

Bought a jug in hopes to shoot HP this year- looks like that won't happen, so most of my shooting will silhouette.
4895 is very close to Varget, which people really like in 30-30, but I never see mention of 4895. Anyone use it? Anyone know if it does not work in 30-30 or silhouette?

thanks
chuck

4895 Works very well in a 30-30. I ue it for 125 and 150, my partner uses it for his 150 and 170.

4895 is a very good powder for 30-30, it's all I have ever shot and have never been able to blame a miss on the powder. :D

chuckd, I suppose you know Hodgdons has discontinued the manufacture of 4895 powder. They said there wasn't enough demand and they have other powders that perform the same or better. So if you can find some, it would be a good idea to buy it now.

Jim, did you mean 4759 instead of 4895?

Chuckd & Al: Thank you Al for correcting my mistake. Yes, 4759 is the powder that's been discontinued, not 4895.

Jim, what load do you use for your 30-30?
I'm working on some light loads, maybe using vv N32c, or going the 22gr route of H4198 under a 125gr and a 170gr bullet. Also thinking of a medium load of 26-28gr of imr 8208xbr under the same bullets.
I understand if you don't want it published.
Thanks, Dennis Ostler
