Well, I bought it. The one thing he said about it was "You should probably give it a good cleaning, I haven't cleaned it very much."
Everything looked pretty good on it. It does need some cleaning and lubing. Hopefully will be a good shooter.
Thanks for all the help.

Joe I was wondering which sight setup did you use on your 39A?

I used the Williams rear with target knobs in the rear and a Lyman 17a front.

Don't be too quick to write-off a great rifle, but with a bad bore if you can get it for a good price. There are plenty of gunsmiths out there that can re-line the barrel and get it shooting better than new for not much money. Plenty of guys at my range have done exactly that and are shooting great scores and winning matches.
Myself - I count myself very lucky that my dad gave me the best 13th birthday present ever in 1974 - a 39a to hunt rabbits with. Little did he know that 30+ years later it would become the most used rifle I own...

Before you reline a barrel try JB Bore Paste. This stuff will clean your bore to "almost new" ...you may not need a gunsmith.
I got mine at Brownells.
