Winchester question
Winchester Lone Star Model-
Any experience with these rifles? All the Win Commeratives I have owned have been good shooters, but no experience with the 1/2 round, 1/2 octagon barrels.
thanks
chuck

Re: Winchester question
Chuck,
Is a 17a Lyman. The piece in the front is just tygon tubing with a cut off 25-20 case stuck in it to protect the fiber wire.

Re: Winchester question
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'd really like to see a closeup of that fiber wire setup if you wouldn't mind - Big problems focusing on the front sight, so I've replaced all my 17a's with Lyman Firesights, but I don't like how fat the fiber is on those. Hate that the sight almost completely covers the chickens, so I'm looking for something fine like the TruGlo on my air rifle (illegal for CLA unfortunately)...

Hi Al,
Picked up my Lone Star today. Which Lyman front sight (height) do I need?
Thanks, Happy Holidays,
chuck

Re: Winchester question
Chuck, Here's a picture of a home made fiber optics insert for a 17a. You start with the lollipop insert and drill a .019 hole in the center than quick glue the fiber optics in. You'll need a .019 drill, a pin vise chuck to hold it and a jewelers eyepiece to see what you're doing. It takes a little practice and patience but you can get the hole dead center.

Re: Winchester question
Thanks ppny- have to ask, is it legal? There was so much back and forth on the fiber optic, I gave up reading!
Also-
Any help with he following-
I picked up the rifle and its covered in dirt/grease- not as bad but almost cosmoline like. I need to pull the forearm to clean and I an stuck. Looks like the forearm does not come off with out removing the mag tube. I have removed the forearm cap screw out (moves but not off) the mag tube cap. and pin that seems to hold the mag in a small shroud. But the mag tune is in there, tight. Any help?
thanks

Re: Winchester question
chuckd, This setup is legal as long as the fiber optic filament doesn't stick out beyond the front of the shroud. The sight assembly total can only be 1 1/8 long and no more than 3/4 diameter.

Re: Winchester question
Chuck,
I have the AUG .584 height on mine.
Pete,
Thanks for posting the picture. I have been hunting, and didn't have a chance to take a picture. Mine is the same except I use .029 wire, with a .030 drill.
