That sure is nice and slow, compared to "book powder charges/velocities". What sort of weights are you throwing to the case for those speeds?glen ring wrote:
The Sierra 150 at about 1600 fps for the first three animals and the Sierra 170 grain bullet at about 1800 fps for the rams pushed by H 4895.
These loads are mild , accurate and reliable on Rams.

Re: 30-30
I'm using 4759 for the 1600fps animals. This is the last season and it will be gone. The H4895 load was derived using the formula on their site for reduced loads. The 4759 will be gone and I'll use nothing but H4895. I'm a wuss when it come to recoil.

Re: 30-30
No1_49er, I used a light load of IMR SR 4759 with a 150 Sierra that got 1600 fps. It was the most accurate load Imever shot in any 30-30. HOWEVER, if the setters didn't set the animals on the back of the rail as instructed' I would ding pigs. I had to constantly be checking the setters at different ranges, and rather than be presumed as a PITA I quit using that load.

Re: 30-30
Thanks Glen, and Al.
I went looking for that reduced data info but only found what appear to be broken web links. Do either of you, or anybody else, know of a more recent link to the reduced load data/formula? My supply of H4895 is more than plentiful so I'd like to start using it, appropriately.

Sorry, I didn't mean to miss you out, Glen. But thanks. I tried every which way to find reduced load data in the Hodgdon site. I'll try backtracking through Als link and try a bit of "reverse engineering".glen ring wrote:Pull up the hodgon site, go to H4895 reduced load data. use their formula. Pretty straight forward.

Re: 30-30
No problem. The 170 grain bullets at about 1800 fps work well on Rams at the only four ranges we shoot at. Ours, in Oklahoma City, Concordia Kansas, Topeka Kansas and at Raton new mexico. Some guys shoot hotter ram loads, that's not for me. The 150 grain bullets at about 1600 fps are really easy to shoot also. I don't like recoil.
The first few years I shot CLA I loaded a 2100 fps load all the way across on all animals. Jeanne , my wife, shot a match with her 32-20 and put down everything she hit, except rams...so now I use a lighter load on the first three animals.
If you have anymore problems figuring the Hodgon site out PM me and I'll show you what I know.
