Format for the Winnsboro Open Air Rifle Championship

Post by dustinflint »

The Air Rifle Silhouette Championship on Friday at the Winnsboro Open has a new format this year:

The course of fire this year will be a total of 80 shots (divided into a 40-shot match in the morning and 40-shot match in the afternoon). Shooters shoot only one rifle all day, either Open, Target or Sporter. It's the shooter's choice which rifle to shoot.

The shooter that fires the highest 80-shot score of the day, regardless of the rifle he/she shoots it with, is the Open rifle champion.

The shooter that fires the highest 80-shot score of the day with a Target rifle is the Target rifle champion. The shooter that fires the highest 80-shot score of the day with a Sporter rifle is the Sporter rifle champion.

A shooter shooting an Open rifle is eligible to win only the Open rifle championship but a shooter shooting a Target or Sporter rifle is eligible to win both the rifle he/she is shooting and/or the Open rifle championship.

In addition to the three championships, we will award first place (only) awards in each class for each rifle. High Senior, High Junior and High Woman awards will be overall only, not separate for each rifle.

This format is similar to the popular proposal at the competitors' meeting at the Air Rifle nationals this year. This is a little different in that it changes only the format of the match and does not require any rule changes or significant award changes. We hope it will make for easier travel for competitors who no longer need to haul 3 rifles to an air rifle match.
