Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x

Thinking about one of these scopes for 1/2 scale smallbore silhouettes. The price is right and reviews I've seen have been good, but I haven't seen anyone address turret repeatability. Can anybody tell me how Vortex scopes, especially the Crossfire II's, are in this area? Also, where are they made? China? (The price seems too good for them to be made anywhere else, but some Chinese scopes I've seen - especially the Muellers - are pretty decent. Too bad their turrets aren't better suited to frequent cranking up & down.)

Washita,
You've asked about this scope for use on 1/2 scale animals. . . those are usually shot with open sights. I'm guessing you meant the 1/5 scale, Smallbore Silhouette animals.
But back to your fundamental question: How's the performance of the Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x?
That's what I installed on my loaner rifle - CZ 452 Style (it's a 452 American, but with composite stock and matt nickle plating).
I have not used it a lot, but so far (knock on wood) it seems to repeat and adjust well. The scope is clear and looks well made. The clicks are distinct. It has enough zoom range that a new person can use it for a good bit of time. At 18x in the top end, it's not far behind the ever popular Leupold 6.5-20! For the $209 I paid, seems like a decent value. Don't know right off where it was made.
I bought it on purpose to show a new-comer to the sport that it does not take a lot of $ to get into the sport. You can spend as much as you want, but you don't HAVE to.

Good Luck and Good Shooting,
ShootingStar - aka Greg Chandler

That's the scope I started with. It worked great! Very repeatable and held zero, definitely a littler heavier than the FX-3 but did the job! Shot a lot of matches with it, never had a problem!

Unless something's changed, Vortex also has a lifetime guarantee. I have one on my gallery rifle, 4X12 I think. I dropped it at the range one day and the scope went south. I sent it in for repair, and within days I had a brand new replacement in my hands. Be advised that the scopes are very fragile re ring tension... Vortex advises using only the short leg of an allen wrench when tightening the rings.

Why not support American workers and buy a better scope. Leupold Goldring Made in the USA.

Vortex scopes of this type are all imports.

I have two Leupolds, one a 6X18, the other a fixed 12, and a steel Weaver fixed 16. I also have two Honorable Discharges on my wall, one from the US Army, Vietnam, and the other from the Washington Army National Guard.... and I shall buy what I want, thank you.

This is the scope I started with as well. It worked fine and had zero problems in the 2 seasons I used it. Upgraded to a Fx3 or I would probably still be using it.

Have any of you used the V-Brite reticle in your Vortex scopes? It is a 0.4 moa dot from the factory.

Yes, that is the reticle that was in my vortex. Just never put a battery in it or turned it on, the dot was black when it was off and did just fine.

Thank you. I am considering one. Been looking at scopes a long time and have a hard time finding one for rimfire or air rifle use from the better manufactures. Glad we have the Vortex option.

After trying to decide on a scope from this forum, this vortex seemed the better choice than the Muller I was thinking of. However, Went to my dealer (here in canada). He told me he could not get it. I emailed vortex to ask if they could get it in. They proceeded to tell me it has been discontinued. hope you have better luck. Can still get the v-brite, but not the v-plex. Did not want to spend the extra $$ for the v-brite if I was never going to turn it on. Ah crap. Got to start from scratch again. Please help.

Shoot, I can't even see the plex reticles anymore without special glasses

I almost have to have a dot, and in this case you can get the vortex scope cheaper than having Leupold install a dot in an EFR. If the tracking works ok the V Brite option may be the best entry silhouette scope option for that reason.

Time will tell I guess.
