Kimber 22 H-S Mount, rings, etc

Postby DRM-SC on Sun Feb 28, 2010 7:13 pm

This is my first post. I know very little about the sport of metallic silhouettes and have never played the game. I am hoping to give it a try soon though.

I have been lurking on this awesome site for some time and recently purchased a Kimber 22 H-S. It does not have grooves on the receiver. I have attached a photo of the receiver to this post (hopefully I do it right).

Can anyone tell me everything that I will need to mount a scope? I hope to shoot metallic silhouettes so I think that I need to watch the weight.

I think that I need a base like this:

Am I correct? What else will I need?

I appreciate any advice that anyone might give.

thank you,
Ryan

All mount manfacturers have compatibility charts, usually found with dealers or online. If weight is a consideration, it's hard to recommend any bases other than aluminium. Those you have a link to are steel which also require steel "turn-in" style rings. They will work great, if you can make weight with your scope choice.
Good luck.

The best way I found to mount rings to a Kimber HS is to buy a base from BKL, they have one specifically for the Kimber. You will need to find some mounting bolts(I took the ones from Leupold) and machine out the holes in the base so the leupold bolts work. Its made of Aluminum and you can use any standerd 11mm rimfire rings. Pic's of this are in the marketplace under Kimber HS for sale. Hope this gives you some ideas. :D

The bases for the Kimber 84 and 22 are the same. You can also use Leupold or Weaver bases for a Kimber 84 for your gun.
I have Leupold STD two-piece bases and Leupold steel rings on my HS and it makes weight even with a Sightron 6-24x40. It is about 3 ounces under.
It would also make weight with a Leupold 6.5-20 EFR and the same base and ring combination.

I just took a set of Kimber bases & rings off of my HS. I have their latest model where the base & lower ring are intregal (one piece). They were great but I had to remove them in order to make weight. Using Weaver 3 piece now. Interested?

fyi,
Kimber did use different screw/thread sizes for their bases between years in some of their models.

Learned a good lesson about patience and Kimber bases today. I had bought a Kimber H-S and was waiting on it to get here and wanted to have bases and rings when it arrived. Called Kimber and told them what I had and the serial #104XX. They told me the bases I needed and said it was the one with the 6-48 screws? Guess what! Gun arrived and the bases arrived the same day from Kimber and imagine that it takes the 8-40 screws!!!! Lesson learned....patience my boy, patience!

I had a HS when they first came out. A guy named Wayne Merrier made some nice bases. I wonder if he is still around?
A buddy just bought another HS and needs bases. Any help appreciated.

I do not have permission to post his contact but if you send me an email I will forward it to him. In the meantime I'll try to get him on SC.
