Can anyone help me with a dot size question
Can anyone help me with a dot size question
I sent a scope into Leupold asking them to install a 1/2 minute dot. I got the scope back today and it is the same size as the target dot in my 6.5 x 20 EFR. The invoice says a 0035 Leupold Dot was installed. Question is is this 0035 suppose to be a 1/2 min dot. I want to explain the problem to Leupold tomorrow, and wish I knew there definitions.
thanks, Sparky

It does sound like Leupold made a mistake. You wanted a 1/2 MOA and got a 3/8.

Dumb question but have you looked at a target with 1" squares @ 100yds/m to see if it covers aprox 1/2 (or at 50 to see if covers 1/4)? Or place a ruler/scale @ 100yd/m and do the same. Easy peazy.

Re: Can anyone help me with a dot size question
The dot is defiantly the wrong dot I did look at it with 1/4" grids at 50 and compared it to a 1/4 minute target dot. I talked with Leupold today and they pulled the original letter I sent with the scope the tech reads me my letter and says ya you ask for a 1/2 minute dot but that's not what we installed. He tells me that the only 1/2 minute dot they have has tapered cross hairs? Does this sound right. I sent the scope back today and want to be sure I get what I want. Thanks for the replies.

You want the tapered crosshairs, that's what they call the "leupold dot". Just remember to ask for it at 20x. I got one back once and the dot was a half inch at 6x.

Re: Can anyone help me with a dot size question
The dot you want is the .0060 Leupold Dot (I always call it the 'Large' Leupold dot). This dot will be it's smallest on the highest power, but should roughly substend 3/8 MOA at 20X. This dot is on a 'tapered' cross hair, but hard to tell if you don't know what you are looking for.
Also - If you have not shipped it back yet, call them with your e-mail address and request that they send you a pre-paid shipping label that way the shipping is free both ways.

Re: Can anyone help me with a dot size question
Thanks, for the help, I have been out of town for work but I called leupold today and they will install the large leupold dot. Funny thing I went out to shoot my high power on Sunday and my VX lll 6.2 x 20 objective lens has the knurled part turning. So while talking with the leupold rep I told about this other problem and they sent me out a shipping label. So I guess I am down till I get some scopes fixed. I guess I will get a bigger dot in this one as well.

Guess why spending extra for a Leupold or other tier 1 scope is worthwhile?
