Fairy dust, huh. :)

Greetings, Snake.

You must have heavier lot of WW than I do. I opened up a different bag and 10 samples weighed the same as before, 157 - 159 grs. I compared WW with PRVI using tap water as you did. Again, WW holds more, 59.0 grs. to the PRVI at 56.3 grs. A 2.7 grain difference. Probably not a big deal in our type of shooting. I will get out this week as weather allows with some PRVI loaded with the same charges I use in WW for a impact location comparison at all four distances. I do not own a chronograph to compare velocities.

I did measure the neck wall thickness on two dozen PRVI samples, too. All measured very uniform at .0120 to .0132 checking six places. None were over .0015 variation. Excellent in my opinion for inexpensive brass. One thing that I have noticed is a larger than average inside and outside burr condition at the mouth. It takes a little more effort to remove with the Wilson tool.

I omitted to mention that all brass had spent primers (up side down) in place. I will run the WWs again. The point was to demo the differences between brands. I just took a fresh WW case from a new bag and didn't turn the neck. It weighed 158,5 grs without a primer (spent) 163,2 with the spent primer and 218.1 filled with water. That means 218.1 minus 163.2 = 54.9. I got no clue about the other case #-o That's more like it....I have notes from years past indicating that Norma and WW were similar in capacity. Note that the Lapua is the heaviest but has acceptable capacity. I only grabbed one case of each....a better test would use at least 10 of each brand, That would also demo how much variation there is in each brand...why don't you get on that Bob since you are the resident mad scientist ^:)^

It would be my pleasure to perform thorough testing of both Norma and Lapua 7-08 cases. Of course this will include actual range testing for longevity. Due to my now rather limited ability to obtain funding for such an endeavor, I must insist that you provide me with the brass. I think that 50 pcs. of each brand will be sufficient for evaluation. They will be returned to you upon completion of test, albeit for current scrap brass value.

Bob you just sit by the mail box and wait for my package. Don't give up ...just wait. Seems to me I'm still waiting for those cartridge holders you said a few years back you'd send along for give-a-ways at the regional. :p By the way that errant WW case was one that was fired and not tumbled....can there be that much smoo in a case from firing? :-o I'm thinking that OMalley and I may do a little chronograph experiment to see what brand is 'faster' and more accurate...

Did someone here ask does it matter if you mix brass ? Answer...NOPE, not really.

Just got done loading a box of 50 rds. of blasting/plinking ammo I shot a couple of days ago. Talk about a mix of brass. :) These got shot at my chicken and pig swingers, most hit the mark. Load is 39.0 grs. I4895 with a REJECT 162 gr. Hornady BTSP. This is just odd amounts of brass laying around that happen to fit in a 50 shot box. Great accuracy, cheap fun.

Bob, just about every time I visit the range I pick up a few once fired .308 brass. Many of my 7-08 cases started life this way. These dozen or so .260's were scattered around the line some time back. Now they are good brass. The other day some kind soul left me three boxes (60 pcs.) of empty Hornady match .308 brass put back in the boxes and left on a table. One thing nice about the 7-08, you have an endless supply of parent cases to form them from.

Bob, your thrift is admirable. Anyone that just throws away Lapua (ditto Hornady and Nosler) brass either has too much money or someone else provides them with ammunition.

Lets throw some more wood on this campfire.

Too much money, I think. Example: Last week wife and I were at CRC camping for three days. On Wed. morning an Audi A6 sedan shows up covered with mud from all the rain we had. Two 30 something males unload TWO each $3000. full out sniper type bolt guns with Nightforce optics, etc. In one hour they fired maybe 100 rds. each of .308 on our distant gongs. All that brass was hitting the concrete with me itching to pick it up. At the end I asked if they were keeping it. They do not reload but were giving it to a friend that does.

:(( STOP already.... I'm running out of tissues feeling sorry for your retired butt.... left to scrounge brass from the ground and garbage cans, whats next trying to sweep up unburned powder and digging bullets out of the dirt and trying to work them back into shooting pills????

It's bad enough I've heard that he has Sarah out at gas stations with a cup and a sign saying out of work and need gas & food money. :-$

You know..this retirement thing ain't for wimps. I had to use this weeks beer allowance last week at the car wash. :( My truck had a hundred pounds of mud on it.

Snake, I got my PRVI test ammo ready to go. Same loads I use in my WW brass for my match rifles. Unlike lesser silhouette cartridges, there is plenty of room for the anticipated pressure increase. I do not have to load warm to knock over my targets. My test will be mainly to see if there are any significant changes in hit location compared to the WW ammo. I will use one of my very accurate std. guns.

I had plans of going out there tomorrow if the weather improves. Today, the local school district near CRC canceled classes due to buses unable to negotiate the muddy dirt roads.

Hey Bob, pass me some more firewood. And some marshmallows, too. :D
