How many rounds/ cases do you have on hand?

Post by whale »

Taking an informal poll to find out how many rounds or brass cases do our members have on hand. I was at a Cabelas' store with my friend when a person purchased all of the Nosler brass in 7mm-08 that was in stock. I was looking for a box or two. Now I am home on the internet to make a purchase. Thanks.

For a guy that wears black vests and black clothes, what is he doing wearing a white hat?

This is a good question. Back in 2008 I used to keep 1 year of ammo and or components for all competition loads and about 1000 rounds of 223 and 308 surplus stuff. After the greatest gun and ammo salesman on the planet took over the white house, and the associated shortages evolved, I re assessed my stock to just about double. I have cycled thru most of the one pound canisters of powder and now only buy 8 pounders except for experimental stuff. This means I have to keep an inventory sheet with minimum stock amounts and all that. It is a bit of a pain but I rarely have to scramble about to buy stuff at the last minute. I teach classes to boy scouts so the biggest problem is keeping about 4000 rounds of 22 rim fire per year in stock. I use to call folks that keep my current amount of on hand ammo crazy hoarders. Go figure....

I have 260 rounds of 7mm-08 and 200 rounds of .300 win mag. I thought 400 to 500 would be sufficient. Maybe not?

Whale, your right on track. I have two match rifles. Both guns are chambered the same and shoot the same loads equally well. I have 900 rounds total for them, 600 CPT and 300 rams.

Something else to keep in mind. More loaded ammo on hand will allow you to shoot more matches and spend less time at the loading bench during peak match season. Another thing. Your 260 cases, assuming best practice loading techniques, neck sizing only, lower pressures, etc. should exceed 12 firings easy. My WW and RP brass lasts 16 to 18 times fired. That adds up to over 3000 shots down the tube just at 12 shots each. How much you shoot should determine how much brass you need. Always good to have extra on hand.

300 - 7mm08 (need to buy some more since some of that is getting older)

1000 - 6.5mm Creedmoor

Pretty much all of it is unloaded at the moment. No matches in my area until September.

Trent, Bob tells me he is all caught up with his loading now and now that he's retired he will have plenty of time to load for both of us. :D :D

Thank goodness! Although I think we have ONLY shoot 7-08 for him to do that for us.
