from the steyr that'll probably get close to 3000. i need to pull over 3K for 5 of 10 shots. 12 rounds will be loaded, 2 pulled and weighed and cant be over MAX in published manual.
the steyrs have the fastest barrels i can tell, so far. the 308 scout shoots the GM308M at 2550 from a 19" tube and published data says 2650 from a 26" remington is the norm.
I figure if i use a max H4350 charge, 58.0C, published data says 2903 MV.
accuracys not the issue right now, just MV.

6mmbr.com has a reloading forum that might be a better place to post this type of question....High power silhouette shooters usually don't push 168 gr .308's that fast....but some of the guys that post over there shoot F-Class and other extreme range shooting sports and some of them push their paper punchers pretty fast....

why the assumption that i'll miss?
If i push a 168 to 3K i can zero for 150 and have an easy 3"+ 150 yard and -3" 300 yard zero's.
I may move down to the 165 if need be.

load is FC once fired WLR primers. H4350 59 gr.
IMR4350 states a few FPS higher w/ 58 gr but also shows it as a compressed load.
If the H runs close without pressure signs i still have room for a half- grain more powder.
for those worried about me blowing up the rifle read this...
"The Steyr prohunter rifle is based upon Steyr's new SBS 96 (Safe Bolt System) which completely encloses the bolt head and extractor with a ring to prevent gas blow-by in the event case rupture. The action has been proofed to in excess of 120,000 psi without failure. The hammer forged and fluted barrel is fitted with a barrel extension on the rear of the barrel into which the bolt locks as in the M16 rifle. The barrel assembly is held in the tubular aluminum receiver with an expansion collar which locks the barrel assembly in place."
I have shot 300 grain loads in the 376 steyr that were in exess of 60300 PSI without any problem. not even sticky bolt lift, so the H4350 load (est. 48100 PSI) or even the compressed IMR4350 (est. 57800) isnt even close.
worst case... i pull a sperated case out of the chamber.

That's funny........xpilot wrote:You can't miss them fast enough to kill them.
PSE-dude, are you looking for silhouette loads for the 30-06 that'll push a 168 to 3K??
if so, you probably won't find them as most folks get pretty tired of kicking the shit kicked out of themselves by their rifle during the course of a match.
Usually shooting scores right in class, too bad its the class below my classification!

Based on PSE's quote, I'm guessing that he's trying to set up for something other than HP Silhouette, but I certainly can't figure out what it might be.public safety equipment wrote:from the steyr that'll probably get close to 3000. i need to pull over 3K for 5 of 10 shots. 12 rounds will be loaded, 2 pulled and weighed and cant be over MAX in published manual.
More information about your intended use for this rifle/round would be helpful, PSE.
