Post by Blairsville »

wondering what people are using in there creedmore. I am shooting speer 140s and am curious what people are pushing it with.
my range high power range on vancouver island is only 350 at rams so i can go light on the power.
right now ive been experimenting with h380 with pretty good results

any help or ideas would be great as im o only in my second year of silhouette

H-4350 works very well in the Creedmoor.

H4350 is the go to for the heavier bullets, and I'm using just over 39 grains for 139 scenars at the rams. That's considered a lighter load by a lot of the PRS guys who are using 42+ grains. You'd have to find what is safe for your gun.

Varget is really good for the lighter ones, but if you are 'only' at 350 for rams, you could use it for the heavier ones most likely. 4350 gives more speed for the heavier bullets. Since we're playing a game, really hot loads aren't needed.

I used H4895 for some reduced loads at the end of last year with 108 grain bullets. I'd have to check, but I think that I used around 28-30 grains with 108 scenars for chickens, pigs, and turkeys. Be sure to read the Hogdon guidance on this if you want to do reduced loads.

ya right now im trying to get away from h4350 because its just to hot for silhoutte. H380 gives me .75 at 100 yards off the bench so its pretty good very low recoil i can do five shots and my barrel is barely hot to the touch and i have not smoked the case at the low end of the book.
I did some Varget as well with success but again pretty hot.

37 grains of Varget with any bullet from 95 V-Max to 143 ELD-X. Haven't adjusted my power measure in 11 years.

Pete, what does that give you for velocity with the 95? Thanks.

Average 2910 with a SD of 6 out of Laura's gun. We have never lost a Pig or Turkey except for the occasional "spinner".

Interesting. Last year I went to 39 grains H4350 for both 108s and 139s since it seemed to work well. No idea on velocities though.

Please keep in mind my high power range is only 350 at the rams with targets adjusted to that size.

So far i hav run varget with 105 on pigs and chickens
ive run 140gr with 37.5 gr of h4350 for turkeys and rams.

now im in the process of trying h380 at 37 with 140gr

i think im pushing around 2400ft but man what a difference in kick and barrel heat
compared to the others
ill report back in the next months with result
