Has anyone re-barreld a Kimber Montana ? My Kimber is very accurate in .257 Roberts , but I was thinking of having it rebarreled in 6.5 creedmore or .260 Remington.

Yes, from 260 to 243 and then from 243 to a new 243 with a bit faster twist. What are you wondering Glen?

Just make sure you find a good gun mechanic to do the work and get a GOOD barrel.

I looking to go to a faster twist in .243 also. Ammo can be found at wally world, ( .257 Roberts can't ) and a 105 grain bullet from a 243 will do everything I need it to do. What barrel and twist did you go to John?

My 243 was a 7 twist. It worked great until the throat went south after about 7 or 8 thousand rounds.

The first 243 barrel was a Kimber replacement for their 260. I think they run a one in ten twist. The current 243 barrel is a Lilja with a one in eight twist. They sure have a small action and I was worried about twisting off the barrel in my vise---they look dainty...HA! Anyway, a local gunsmith did it and as far as I can tell, all is fine, the action must be rigid.

I should have added that I went with a bit heavier contour, a # 4 I believe. I'm not sure that I wouldn't stick with the same contour as the factory if I did it again.

Jerry, your barrel must have been a lot better quality than the factory barrel. I had it replaced just shy of 2500 rounds and there was no rifling for two to three inches or so past the neck. I loaded mainly WC852 and AA4350 with 100 Sierra Spitzers in mine. What brand barrel did you have?

I would keep the Bob. What a cool round.

The first bbl was a factory job with a 9 or 10 twist. I replaced it with a reverse taper Lilja with a 7 twist when the first one went bad. It started out at a 1/2 minute gun and ended up at 1 1/2. I now have a 260 bbl with an 8 twist on that gun and about 200 rounds thru it.
