If the rams were tough because you shot over or under them, then you almost certainly need better ammo. If you missed in all directions, then it might be the ammo AND the rifle AND your spotter's wind calls.
In my opinion, turkeys can be harder yet.

We shot our first match Saturday in Stillwater Oklahoma. It was a blast. I only hit 5 chickens, but that is soemthing to work on. GREAT fun.

You all missed the CPA Steven 44 1/2 like mine. A little pricier, but damn fine rifles. Plus can be easily converted to multiple different cartridges.
I have also used Originals Stevens 44's, and Uberti Low Walls, and have put some rounds downrange with surprising accuracy using a Ron Long liner and a Crossno liner. The liner gun are harder to extract the empties but should not be overlooked, if you already have a big bore BPCR gun available.
